Connecting Media and Psychological Disorder Mind Map Reflection

What are 3 core competencies that are demonstrated in your Connecting Media and Psychological Disorder Mind Map Assignment?

One of the core competencies that I’ve portrayed in this assignment is the Personal Awareness and Responsibilities section. I satisfy this by showing a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. This assignment took me a longer time to finish than I expected it to take. Halfway through, I had times where I got tired of finishing it up and thought of handing it in without my best work in it. However, I was able to refocus and eventually finish it up. I am happy with my work and feel pride in my accomplishments.

I show creative thinking in my assignments in the part where I deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head. For the assignment, we had to pick a media source that included psychological perspectives. I chose an intro video of a series of episodes that I enjoyed watching. Choosing a media source that I enjoyed watching helped me do the assignment with more enthusiasm and interest.

I portray the critical and reflective thinking core competencies by analyzing evidence to make judgements. With the psychological perspective terms given, I was able to find factors in my media source that satisfied those perspectives.

A & P 12 Core Competency

This is a photo of the glucose tubing in the beaker full of solvent.

Communication CC

During the dialysis lab, communication played a great part in making the experiment successful. My partner and I had to work together to properly put in the glucose into the dialysis tubing and discuss different ways to make sure that the tubing was sealed properly so that it would not leak when it went into the beaker filled with water. As we were divided into two groups (starch group, glucose group), communication within the group was important to ensure that each person had the correct observations for the starch and glucose experiment. Sharing ideas and thoughts also played a big part as it led us to get a more accurate conclusion.

Thinking CC

I had to critically and reflectively think to conclude our experiment. Based on the observations that we’ve got, we had to answer questions of whether the starch/glucose was diffusible through dialysis tubing. There was some uncertain evidence that got me confused, but with discussing and looking back through the observations with my groupmates, I was able to get better response for the question. Sharing ideas within the group absolutely helped as we gave feedback to each other and kept building upon each other’s ideas until we got an answer like response. One part that I would like to improve for next time is to more carefully record observations.

Research Assignment Reflection

“I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

For the research assignment, we were in groups to make a survey to find out if our hypothesis was accurate. For the survey, our team had to work together to make sample questions. Fortunately, we were able to come up with questions quite easily. After making the questions, we had to make a Microsoft Forms to get the results. With those results we made an Excel form and wrote our conclusion. With teamwork, we managed to finish this assignment without any problems. Thankfully, all our teammates were responsible and took part in the assignment. I was able to take my role in making the Excel Form by making the correlation to see whether our hypothesis was accurate or not. By using our time in class and working together, we were able to finish this assignment with our best effort.

Where I’m From Essay

My Paper

The Writing Process

For this assignment, I had to interview a family member to learn about my family heritage. Interviewing somebody was very interesting because it was something that I’d never done before. I learned that by engaging with the interviewee, you can get more information and details about the subject. Coming up with different questions to ask was one of the challenges that I had for this essay. However, it wasn’t much of a problem because I ended up creating some questions as I was doing the interview; it was one of the parts that I enjoyed the most. During the interview, some of the stories sparked my interest and by asking more questions about the subject, I was able to get more information in detail for the essay. With my first draft, I remember struggling to use quotes in my essay. It was hard to find the right spot to use the proper quote. Transitions were also one of the parts that took me a long time to work on. But, by re-writing the essay each time after getting peer edits, I think my final draft improved compared to my first draft. The oral presentation was another obstacle to overcome. I always had a hard time talking in front of people, but I think I’m getting better as I do more. Interviewing somebody required more skills and responsibilities than I thought it would, but overall, I enjoyed doing this assignment.

Core Competency Reflection

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by looking back at the peer edit sheets and trying my best to fix those parts that they pointed out. I added parts that they told me that I was missing and handed my draft in.

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include coming up with questions before the interview and making notes on what they say. I asked more questions when I thought I needed more information about it and recorded the interview to make sure I could go back to it.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I take some time to rest before focusing back. I was able to balance my work time and focus on tasks when I needed to. Taking enough time to rest was important because I was able to not make my brain too stressed and therefore, focus back on tasks to the best ability.

Others find my feedback useful because I try my best to give them suggestions that will make their work better. Whenever I saw some parts with errors, I made comments on specifically what points might be better if they were changed. But I also pointed out the good parts of their essay and what parts stood out. I feel that they were useful because when my partner showed her work after editing, the points that I commented on were all fixed and were written better than the draft she had before.

A goal that I would have myself going on would be to contribute to and work with criteria to improve my work because I easily forget to check the criteria before starting work and have missing parts in my assignments at the end. To improve this, I will carefully look at the criteria before moving on to anything and listen to the teacher whenever they give instructions. I’ll achieve this goal by showing evidence that I worked hard by including all the requirements from the criteria without missing anything.

Lab 20C: Acid-Base Titration

Curricular Competency Explanation

Titration is neutralization using special techniques. Titration was used in this lab to determine the volume of NaOH used to be neutralized with HCl. The volume of the base and the acid were measured by using a burette and a pipet. The endpoint of a titration is known by observing the lightest shade of pink. The lightest shade of pink was observed when an average of 14.79+-1.4% of NaOH was used. By using Stoichiometry, we were able to calculate the morality of HCl which were 0.148M+-1.4%

Core Competency Self-Assessment: Communication

Throughout the lab, me and my partner showed communication and collaboration. We listed all the steps necessary for the lab. During the lab there were some confusing steps that we could not figure out, so we went to ask for help from the teacher. Collaboration was an important part of the lab. As it wasn’t an easy lab compared to those we did in the past, there were some parts that me and my partner struggled with. However, by sharing information, consistently asking and communicating we were able to get an accurate product. Each of us had different roles for the lab, and we changed roles for every new trial.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Should our criminal justice system be more punitive or rehabilitative? Why?

I think our criminal justice system should be more punitive and rehabilitative. Establishing both of these in our criminal justice system will be hard, but it is important to give enough punitive actions for those who have committed a crime and giving access to the rehabilitation after to also give them a chance to return to society.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

Taking law this year, I learned how to analyze evidence to make my judgements. There were a lot of assignments that required me to find all the evidence from the crime and give out a sentence that I thought was reasonable. Sometimes it was confusing because one piece of evidence could be used by both the prosecution and the defence side. Making judgements for crimes was one of the parts that I struggled most on, but by taking this course my skills for giving reasoning to my judgement have developed. I think this skill will help me in the future whenever I need to make an accurate judgement based on my reasoning.

Our Utopian City: Plush Mania

Plush Mania

In our city, we chose Green, Brown, and Yellow as our theme colours. Green is shown mostly in trees and bushes, Yellow in flowers and fire, and brown in our buildings. The colours green and yellow symbolize Nature, growth, harmony, and happiness. Brown represents reliability, stability, honesty, and comfort. These three colours bring forth everything we value in an idealistic city.

This is our collaborative city based on our values. We chose 5 values which were safety, community, education, environment, and health. We chose safety as one of our values because, in order to have a well-functioning and happy community, you need to have safety and trust within the people. No one wants to live in an unsafe city where you constantly worry about being in danger. To show safety in our city we built a police station and a bank. We built it in a bank because we thought trust was closely related to safety. In every relationship between clients, employees, and friends they need to have trust between them in order to work together and to help each other. Community was also an important value that we thought should be in our city because a sense of community is necessary in any city or neighborhood. Communities play an important role in every aspect of our lives. We have communities in our friends, our families, our jobs, our neighborhoods, and in so many other places. We find community in the sports teams we support or participate in, or hobbies we enjoy, even the food that we like. Having a sense of community unites us. To show the community in our city we built a recreation center and a park where people can enjoy their hobbies together and spend time together.  Education was our third value. We built a school to show education in our city. We chose this because education is important all around the world. Going to school not only builds character but also prepares children for the adult world. Everyone needs a fair chance at life, and in this modern society, having a good education is the first step to a more fulfilling life. For the fourth one, we chose the environment. We chose this because to have a healthy life, the environment is very important to us. It not only provides us resources for new medicines, but it also provides us home as well. For our society to thrive we need to protect the environment because there’s so much we depend on them for things such as food, water, fuels, medicines, and so many other things. To show our value we made a park, trees, garbage cans and recycling bins in the street. Lastly, we chose health as our fifth value. Health is like the center of our life. To enjoy going out with friends and family, you need to maintain a healthy body. To show health in our city we built in a hospital.

Communication Reflection

For this project we had to make an ideal city with our values in it. We used Minecraft to build the city. OneNote was the app we used to share our work together and Instagram to communicate. We had 3 members in our group and each member had their own part to contribute to the design. One of our members was able to build the city and the other member and I did the writing part. My partner got most of the information, so I just made it into a paragraph. I think we really worked well as a group, and we also used our time efficiently, so we were able to finish it before the deadline. I think we didn’t face any problems while doing the project, everything went out smoothly and we all had our own parts to finish. Overall, I’m very satisfied with our project, but I think next time I can make the paragraph a bit shorter and clearer.

What’s the World Around Town?

Reflection

a. Was I able to identify how the geography impact the town / city with ease? How was I able to find how the physical geography impacted these areas?

Yes, I was able to identify how the geography impacted the town by using notes and by researching.

b. How did the technology personally affect my learning? What were the pros and cons of using maphub.com? Be detailed in your response here.

Using technology really helped me to get my work more organized and neater. However, using maphub was a bit difficult for me because I didn’t how I was supposed to insert an image, it took me a while to figure it out.

 c. Were you satisfied with the result of your design and solutions?

Yes, I am satisfied with the result of my design, but I think I could have done better in explaining with more details about my town.

d. How would you refine your assignment in the future?

I think I would add more paragraphs explaining my town more detailed and I think I would take more time researching and thinking how the town will change in the future.
