I looked over my past paragraphs and talked about what I should improve on with my teacher, Mrs. Willett. I proofread my paragraph multiple times to match my writing goal assignment. I made sure to check the parts in between my paragraphs to see if I explained my previous ideas again.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

What is one aspect of your writing that you still need to work on and how might you get help or improve in this particular area?

I focused on the content of my paragraphs too much and didn’t work on the basic grammar and language I used. I still need to work on pruning my paragraphs more. I want to incorporate more formal language and advanced vocabulary. For my next paragraph/essay, I want to talk to my teacher more to make sure I’ve got the basics. Also, I’m going to proofread more for details on my sentences to make it more formal.

Separation Agreement

Scenario 2

About the Project

I became Partner 2 and I researched about family and divorce laws to help me get what I want from our separation agreement. Me and my partner, Andrea, actively argued throughout this agreement to reach a middle point. However, I was aggressive in my agreements and pushed to get my wants and succeeded. We wrote the divorce agreement using an actual online form for a real divorce.

Core Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

I looked at divorce/family laws to see if I am in a good position to get what I want from our agreements and also backed off from arguments when I thought I was going to lose.

I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation.

I used common sense and used information from family/divorce laws to help me with my arguments. I also tried bargaining with Andrea such as me getting one thing I want and me giving her something she wants.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

As I researched about specific laws, there were more related laws to it that I could use against my partner. I also took some ideas my partner was arguing about and researched on it to make it my own point to counter her.

I can recognize my emotions and use strategies to manage them.

I got really into the argument and had moments where I was actually annoyed at my situation. I negotiated with my partner and put holds into our argument when it gets really heated, so we can both relax and start the argument peacefully. I also used my annoyed self to push my arguments harder and put pressure on my partner.

I can be kind to others, and support others when they need it. (my goal)

I focused on winning the argument too much that I could’ve came out as too aggressive towards my partner. I will try to care about my partner’s marks also and try to be more nice and mindful of their position as well.

Curricular Competency Reflection

I thought about a lot of ideas that I could use for my arguments as well as counter arguments I could make against my partner. I did a lot of research relating to divorce/family laws and made me understand more about the difficulties of divorce processes. I was able to communicate with my partner well to eventually come into an agreement after a long argument, which helped us write a lot of notes for this project. I realized that I am good at conveying my ideas.

Self-Assessment Paragraph

At the start, me and my groupmates looked at the board to see the examples provided so we could follow along with it and figure out how to present our thinking. I gave my own ideas and got my group to share their own ideas too and assigned roles to each other. One wrote the answer, one researched and tried to figure out the evidences, and I tried to organize the evidence so my groupmate could right the answer well. I knew our group was working well when we were all writing/thinking something, and communicating with each other to confirm our information/work. By the end, our group clarified with the teacher and looked at the textbook to see that our evidence and answer was correct.

Law Debates

About the Project

My group had to do a debate against another group regarding legalization of prostitution in Canada; we were on the pro side for the legalization. I researched about information regarding foreign countries laws and policies regarding and the good side of the legalization of prostitution. I helped organize and write the script and spoke for the debate . Most of my group mates got together and shared ideas, prepared the script, and practiced speaking for the debate.

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.

I told my group that I would research about foreign policies and laws, then took proper notes to share to the group. I shared the information to my group and wrote the information on the script where it would fit best after talking about it with the group and helping everyone understand.

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

I chose this because our group divided what to do and I was assigned to research and organizing scripts. I researched thoroughly about my topic of interest and shared it to my group, and organized the script into parts with good information with my group mates.

I can recognize different points of view and can disagree respectfully.

As we started to organize and make our script, our group gave different ideas relating to when will someone speak and where to put the information. I listened to the groups’ ideas, thought about how the audience and the flow would be, and gave new ideas or agreed with them while respecting their thoughts.

I can analyze my own beliefs and consider views that do not fit with them.

Although I was debating for the pro side of the legalization of prostitution, there were some opinions and information that did not fit my beliefs. However, I considered how different people could agree/disagree to it, and thought of back up statements and information to support the group.

One goal I have for myself / I can apply constructive strategies to navigate misunderstandings and conflicts.

I want to work on this goal because I like to just skip over misunderstandings and conflicts. I do not think much of them and I try to move on with our work without worrying about it. I understand I should think about what other people’s thoughts are and figure out ways to solve conflicts first. I will start to consider and think of ways to solve conflicts and find ways to make people understand points effectively. I would like to have smooth teamwork and get the work done without obstacles.

Curricular Competency Reflection

For this debate, I made reasonable decisions based on facts, group mates’ opinions, and views of people around the world. I tried to not let my own beliefs interfere with the presentation of the debate and respected/included other people’s opinions. I was able to present my information using foreign countries policies and laws, and how people outside of Canada view prostitution. I used words to respect prostitutes and the people of that industry and carefully considered how people would think depending on the things we say about them.

Building My Future-Cost Based Analysis

About the Project

I made 3 scenarios for my future and analyzed the costs of it. I thought about my career like which university I am going to, where I am going to live, and what job I am going to have. After thinking about future scenarios and figuring out the costs, I decided the best scenario for me and reflected on it.

I can deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head.

I researched about the universities I was considering going to and programs related to accounting, and learned about new accounting programs that gave me an idea to make a new scenario.

I can inquire into and present on topics of interest and topics related to my studies.

I searched about programs, universities, and exams related to business and how I can use those to help with my accounting career and my final job.

I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences.

I presented my scenarios and talked about how going into university will be my way of life. I got my future career of accounting from taking the courses, and learning how the job is and what I have to do get the job from my dad and researching about it.

I can imagine and work towards change in myself and in the world.

When I researched about the universities and its course requirements, I learned I have to take business, socials, and hard math classes. For my course selection, I thought about those requirements and chose my courses to fit the requirements for UT and UBC.

One goal I have for myself / I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation.

Once I choose a way for me to work or have a specific goal, I only think of that one and I do not think of other possible answers. I’ll take more time to research and think about using other ways to approach a situation.

I thought about multiple scenarios and how I would live my life . I did heavy research on costs, universities, accounting programs, and every item that might be included in my scenario. I analyzed the costs and found out the most efficient costs for my future and the most effective way to get to my main career. I used many different websites to arrive to my conclusion and made sure it satisfied me.
