A & P 12 Core Competency Edublog

COMMUNICATION:

During the diffusion lab, communication with lab partners and group members is important. I communicated with my partner when doing the procedures, as team work is an essential for our lab to be done on time. There was a miscommunication on part of the lab as the dialysis tubing ended up in the trash at one point. Nevertheless, we decided to make a new one and at this point we fully listened and responded accordingly, we communicated properly and so we could finish the lab on time. During the predicting of hypothesis, communication is needed with my partner and my two other group members. My partner and I did the part A of the lab and so doing the hypothesis for part A wasn’t too hard, however, my two other group members did part B’s portion. Because I didn’t do the part B portion and they didn’t do the part A portion, communication is necessary. All the group members have to communicate and listened properly in order to predict the hypothesis. Next time when doing another lab, I would like to improve on my active listening skills.

CRITICAL/REFLECTIVE THINKING

There was much critical and reflective thinking done during this lab. Considering there was no exact answer for the questions on the lab, to answer the questions I had to reflect deeply and connect the data results with the notes. I had to do some research too on diffusion. To account for any errors, reflective thinking is crucial. For the conclusion, I had to reanalyze the evidence, research on factors effecting diffusion, and look back on the notes to be able to make decisions and draw conclusions. Accounting for any errors done on the lab made me realize many things. Next time, I would like to improve on asking more questions and being more curious.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Communication

The titration lab has taught me and helped me gain various different skills. Communication is the key for this lab as we needed to divide tasks, observe the solutions, communicated how many drops are needed, etc. Through this lab, I gained both leadership, communication, and listening skills. This lab requires myself and my partner to focus, as we had to do this experiment more than twice.

Our Utopian City: Aimra City

Made By: Jada, Amanda, myself (Maria)

Values:

Community

Community is very important in a social environment. That is why it is one of our core values for our city. To make sure this value is met, we have a community rec centre (pink building) and walking trails along the bottom left of our town. These buildings allow for community engagement and activities for all ages to use and enjoy with other people from their area.

Health

Health is one of our values that we think is needed in a city. Without health, how can people stay safe and healthy physically? Health is the center of life, every part of our lives depends on having good health. Which is why the city needs a hospital. The hospital is a green building located in the east of the city near the university we have.

Education

Education is one of the core values of our town, as it is very important to have in a functional society. We showed this by building both a school and a university (the blue and the brown buildings). Both of these buildings are key to gaining an education and increasing your knowledge of the world.

Safety

Safety is the backbone of a community. It is key to keeping the people in our city feeling safe and comfortable in their environment. No one wants to feel unsafe in their own home, so we added a police station to keep everyone secure and happy. This is the black and yellow building with the matching flag on top.

Environment/Nature

Environment and nature are key to an appealing and inviting city. Additives to our  city environment and nature elements not only help to improve the quality of air, but add nice scenery and views to our city.

By adding trees to the tops of our residential buildings and parks and walking trails, we are making a happy and green environment for our citizens.

Symbolic Colors:

Blue: represents peace and happiness, it is found in the school and the sky.

Green: represents calmness and hope, it is found in the hospital and the trees in our city.

Communication Reflection:

the city design project shows what our dream city is and what we want in it. we were put into groups and ask to discuss 3-5 values we want our cities to have. After done discussing, we chose a program we want to design our city with. At first, we tried using a program called Roll for Fantasy, but we had some difficulties using it. Out of all the website there was, we felt that City Creator was the easiest and best to use. In my opinion we communicated well with each other. we all contributed ideas and if we do have different ideas, we’ll try and think what the best solution is and which idea to do. We mostly agreed on each of our ideas, so there were not any major problems. In the group, each of use gave ideas on what each of our values should have in our city. For instance, I thought of having a hospital for health (one of the values we have in our city), we also divide the values and explained why we think it’s important to put in our city. If we have ideas we’ll think of a way on how to put it in our city and how our city should go. I feel like we did an excellent job working as a group. we used our time wisely; things we needed to discuss as a group we try and finish it at class where everyone can answer and listen, and we also make a group chat so if one of our group members have a question we can just ask and discuss there. I am satisfied with the final project. We discussed our ideas and what we want our ideal city to look like and it turns out the way we wanted.
