There are many examples within the literature that illustrate the character of Mooch. Mooch is an intriguing character in the literature. To begin with, Mooch is a smuggler and unreliable, he shows this behavior when he uses money that he steals from his girlfriend June for alcohol at the bar. Mooch continuously shows this behavior on multiple occasions using the money at the bar for alcohol or gambling with pull tabs, one time June found out and stormed into the bar to confront Mooch after he had “stolen [her] grocery money”. Mooch does this behavior to cope with trauma from residential schools where he was physically abused. This behavior demonstrates his smuggling antics. Mooch is blindsided and violent. This is evident in the literature when he was walking out from the bathroom, and he sees his friend Floyd and June hug because Floyd was going to see his daughter Christine for the first time since she was a baby. Mooch instead comprehends them hugging as if they were kissing and that June was cheating on him with his friend by yelling “You cheating on my girlfriend?”. Mooch will then proceed to yell and fight with Floyd without taking a moment to understand the situation ruining Floyd’s shirt and making a poor appearance for him when Christine walks in. This is a prime example of Mooch not reading the room or understanding the situation and then becoming hostile because a simple misunderstanding led to a whole fight embarrassing Floyd in front of his daughter. And finally, Mooch is a worn down man. This is demonstrated and revealed when he explains his past physical abuse at the residential school he attended where he would “be beaten a lot” by the priests. Because of this past trauma and the toll it takes on his mental health and the fact Mooch was a logger this explains why he uses alcohol to cope and how he will steal money for alcohol. This is a major struggle Mooch has that he has an extremely hard time controlling. These points indicate Mooch is very worn down at this time of his life. To conclude, it is evident Mooch has negative attributes in the story from his alcohol addiction to his past trauma.

A rapidly growing black hole (COS-87259) has been discovered by astronomers from both the University of Texas and the University of Arizona. Forming stars 1000x than the milky way and more than 1 billion solar masses of interstellar dust. Black holes like this one happen at the center of many galaxies and have masses millions to billions of times greater than the sun in our universe. It’s still unknown how these black holes first form because of us finding them as they existed in the past. Black holes like this one are one of the many supermassive black holes out in space.

Questions that I needed to research in order to create my summary were how accurate was this information and the size of this black hole and why it’s big. Some tools I used were to use google to search the people behind my article and if they are trustworthy or not and used the links to find out how trust worthy is the the article I am looking at. The process I used was to find the organization behind the article as well as the people who are running it and to find out their background in astronomy, I cited the info by including it in my hand in. The process of this was a bit difficult because you need to find out the people writing this article behind the organization and to see if it’s a legit organization or if it’s a fake.

Searching up discoveries in the field that I am looking at (astronomy) and referencing other articles to see if they are producing similar information. I also took a look at a specific topic (black holes) since it was something I had some knowledge of before.

This project relates to my learning because its space related and is something that is being taught in courses. This is also something I’ve learned in the past about as said earlier so it’s under whats being taught.

Curricular Response

The difference between a stock and a bond is that when you buy a stock the stock will give you part of ownership to a corporation, while a bond is a loan from you to the corporation. Stocks tend to have the better return because its a higher risk which can have a higher return.

Risk and return are always associated together, the higher the risk the higher the return may be, however the lower the risk is the lower the reward may be. Steps you can take to mitigate risk when investing in the stock market can be diversification with things such as index funds.

The meaning of a well balanced portfolio is to balance the risk and the return. Rebalancing a portfolio is where you sell bonds and buy stocks so it, it’s important because it automatically buys low and sells high.

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include… working in a calm and quite environment so I don’t get distracted by anything or anyone, Confirming my sources and information so that I am not mislead. I also take breaks when needed to calm down in case any information get’s hard to find. I use trusted sources and give credit when needed to when I submit my work. I also don’t get distracted by any other information that shows up and only work on my stuff.

I am clear on the difference between simple “group work” and collaboration as evidenced by… collaboration work is 2 people doing a equal amount of work while group work is a group given different tasks to do in order to efficiently work. Group projects need more communication between everyone compared to collaboration which is one person and another person. Collaboration are often easier to do since there can be little conflict. Group project’s give you less work compared to collaborations.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see… Everyone working on their own work silently or with help. No conflict between anyone and if so a solution to solve our problems. Everyone is on topic and each contributing to the group with equal amounts of work. If there’s communication it is work related and positive information. We can also communicate when not in a work environment.

Fried Rice

Making and Sharing Reflection

Making this recipe had crucial steps to make the outcome of this, some of the steps is to cook the rice ahead of time so this recipe can be fast when we make it with all ingredients ready. Another is to perfectly cook the egg so it doesn’t overcook in the fried rice. Chopping and preparing the ingredients is key so the fried rice has small bite sized veggies. Cooking the veggies to perfection so that they don’t overcook is also crucial. Lastly the sauce is the 2nd important ingredient to this dish as it provides the fried rice taste.

The 4 Core competency’s I chose were:

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to… – check with them and review what each of our jobs are ahead of cooking.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see… – Good communication, no arguments, and some fun as well.

Making and Sharing Reflection

I am reflecting on “Create food products, working individually or collaboratively, and making changes as needed” and “Critically evaluate the success of meals, and explain how design ideas contribute to the individual, family, community, and environment. I think I had done good in creating food products and working with others or by myself as the more recipes we did. After a couple of food labs I got the hang of working in groups of 3, in partners, and by myself when my partner is going for ingredients or if I am going for ingredients. I also did make changes in the event it was needed such as if my partner was away for one of the labs, I was able to adjust. The only struggle I had was a bit of communication while in the process of cooking. But I overall think I did great. I also properly evaluated the meals I created, if they were good or not, and if I would ever make them again.

Here are my 3 core competencies:

  1. As an active listener, I notice that… : I chose this core competency because I noticed that when I actively listen I can learn some important things that help me later on. I also notice when I actively listen I could help improve my grades in some way.
  2. I know when the group is working well together when I hear/see : I chose this because the group had properly made the scones and were properly communicating.
  3. If the group is not productive, we can … in order to get things moving in the right direction : I chose this because when we didn’t work productively, I would always try to help and solve the issue to keep working.

One goal I have going forward is being better at showing how I value feedback, I think sometimes I take feedback a bit too personal and it could lead to a bad group experience, so I want to improve in that.
