My Parabola

My Equation

Parent Function

DESMOS Graph. (Red is my equation and blue is the parent function)

The Vertex for my equation is (6,-7)

The Vertex for the parent function is (0,0)

Paragraph

The significance of a, is that it determines the width and direction of the parabola. When a is in between 0 and 1 the parabola will be stretched (wider than the parent function) which is what happened with mine because it was 1/2. If a is positive it opens up, if it is negative it opens down. Since mine was positive, it opened up. The significance of h is that if it’s positive it will shift to the right. If it’s negative it’ll move to the left. Since mine was positive before I plugged it into the equation it went to the right. Lastly k is significant because if it’s negative it shifts down. If it’s positive it shifts up. Mine was negative therefore it shifted down. All of these had an impact on making it different from the parent function.

Self Assessment

  1. I represented my equation and the parent function in two different ways. I first wrote them both down on paper and took a photo. I then used desmos to show them on a graph.
  2. I used the words positive, negative, parent function, equation, parabola, and vertex to demonstrate my understanding.
  3. I used desmos because it is a clear organized way of sharing my information. It’s a good way for visual learners to see my equation and the parent function on a graph.

English First Peoples 11 Reflection

My Artifact (Where the Blood Mixes Essay)

Curricular Competencies Reflection

I learned that while reading this play you need to look deeper into the text. When I would read it, I would just pick up on the little things, but this play taught me that there is always a message within each line. It helped me learn how badly the Residential Schools affect people long term. By learning this it will help me understand the affects they have on people that attended them

Core Competencies Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. While writing my essay on the play I analyzed the evidence on how the characters would act and use quotes from the play to make judgements on them. I also reflected on my thinking for one of the characters in the play in clear ways to show how the Residential Schools affected them. After writing and reading about the play I can tell the difference between facts and opinions. Many people have their own opinions on the Residential Schools but knowing about the facts and affects they have I now clearly know what the right facts are.

Life Saving Measures

My first key takeaway of these three presentations is that when doing CPR if you crack their rib that’s actually a good thing. It’s to help get air through and we always want to help the heart. I always thought that was a bad thing but now I know it’s okay. Substance abuse has been the worst here in BC in 2021 and is a public health emergency. Naloxone is a drug that can save peoples lives when having an overdose. You inject it in the shoulder, thigh, or butt. All these impacted me and my life because I’ve known people that have died from overdose and these presentations helped me understand what to do if I ever witnessed it.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. I can do this by analyzing the correct way to give the naloxone drug and give it properly to someone in need. I can also do this by analyzing that the first pump of CPR is the hardest and most important. Taking these into consideration helps me make judgements on how to properly do these things.
