My Storyboard

My Reflection

Tim Burton, in Edward Scissorhands, used the ending scene in order to show what had happened to Edward and Kim after they separated. The heart clenching scene When Edward is told to run away from the town was an important part of the movie. It described the unfairness and how two face the town’s people were. From the start, Edward wasn’t welcomed. He was different, which lead people to become curious about him and was used as an attraction. Even though, Edward felt safe with Peg and her family. After meeting Kim, he found himself having a deep connection with her. He learns about new emotions and feelings. The downfall of Edward and him not being able to get his revenge was depressing but he also became isolated, and he never spoke the truth. Edward spent his life alone in the castle, knowing Kim would never come back. As the long shot of the castle is shown, it cuts to the scene of Kim telling the story to her granddaughter. Her appearance is shown elderly and has a bittersweet expression. When she is asked on how she knows Edward is still alive, she answers that she doesn’t know but she believes so. As we see in the background of her window, a gentle snow falls down. The town never snowed before Edward came. This is
the reason why she believes he is. Back in the castle, Edward is surrounded by many ice sculpture of Kim and the town’s kids. He shaves the ice, allowing it to make it snow over the town he once felt loved.

For example, in my own interpretation, I kept the storyboard similar to the real scenes from the movie because all the different framing and shots were important to show the hope and dedication to keep one another connected. The long shots and establishing shots would describe the emptiness and lonesome Edward would have been. The close up of Kim when she believes he is watching over her. The trust they have on each other although they can’t reunite makes this scene heart-breaking. This adaptation from film to visual novel taught me how important the basis of film elements. How the camera angles can affect the slight mood change, the lighting to describe the vibe, and the music in the background brought audiences to be invested in the story a lot more. This film unit had made me look at movies in a different perspective.
