Core Competency Goals

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when I am doing group work. I find that when I get put into groups I don’t really talk or share my thoughts and ideas. This semester when I get assigned into a group in a class I will contribute more and share a few of my ideas. I could also build off other peoples ideas or add on to their ideas. This will also help me connect with my peers an feel more confident and comfortable in the class room.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I put my phone down and continue my work. I find that I a easily distracted when I am doing work because my phone is so close to me. To stay on task and re-focus I should put my phone in a different room or in my bag. That way it’ll be out of reach and I can fully focus on the work in front of me.

I notice when people feel left out and to make sure they feel included I will ask if they want to join the conversation. Ive noticed that sometimes I wont include everyone when I’m having a descution. I will improve that this semester by going up and asking if they want to join the conversation or have any input on the situation. I will make sure that they feel included and comfortable.

PHE 10 AH Reflection

My Product

See the source image
I am feeling happy this Monday morning

To celebrate an accomplishment such as scoring a goal or getting a touch down, I do a celebratory dance. I will run around cheering and high five my teammates. I make sure that everyone who contributed to my goal gets a little hand shake. I look for my friends and I cheer with them. I like to have fun and celebrate my accomplishments.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include walking to school everyday. I live about a 10 minute walk away from school so its an easy way to get my exercise in. I also play lacrosse 3 times a week and I take my dog on a 20 minute walk ever day. I like to get outside and be active for at least 30 minutes everyday.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal. I demonstrated this by huddling up with my football team and making plays. If our play worked we could celebrate and cheer.

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I show this when someone on my team scores. I cheer for them and I give them a high-five.

I find it easy to be part of a group. I show this when I collaborate with my team mates to make special plays.

I demonstrate respectful, inclusive behaviour. I show this when I make sure that everyone on my team feels included and part of the team.

I encourage others to share their voices and value diverse perspectives. I will work towards this by listening to what others have to say and applying it in my life. I will try my best to make them feel safe enough to share their thoughts.

The Simpsons

My Analysis

Creating and Communicating

The Simpsons taught me and helped me fully understand irony and satire. I got to see visual irony when homer bounced back into the burning house after Ned threw him out. I analyzed and saw the irony of expecting one thing and getting something different. I learned about satire through the characters. Homer is an example of how dads would rather watch tv and eat instead of watching the kids. I reread my work and got rid of unnecessary words to refine my work. I used the less is more technique to not use too many words.

Core Competency Reflection

I can describe how satire, irony and/or allusion relates to the Simpsons. I used different evidence from the show and used examples from episodes. I used examples of visual and verbal irony that I noticed in the episodes and satire of the characters.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by asking questions and getting clarification. I also talk and compare my work with my peers. I ask my peers about my work and if it needs more help. I make sure that my work meets the criteria and exceeds expectations.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I write essays or take tests. In essays I am open minded to criticism to help make my work the best it can be. On tests I learn from my mistakes and i talk to my peers about how they study for tests or what they studied.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Social Awareness & Responsibility in CLE 10

I can find explain when something is unfair and advocate for others, take action to support diversity and defend human rights.

The core competency connects most to my harassment paragraph. In the paragraph I talk about how we can tach people about harassment. I talk about how it is unfair that people feel like they cant talk about. I talk about the different ways people could speak out and the different ways people can help. There is a lot of support places and people you can talk to if you feel you’re experiencing harassment. I defend people in this paragraph about their basic rights of being bale to speak freely. This harassment paragraph fully explains the core competency and I feel its a great example. This paragraph helped me learn more about harassment and I feel it can help other people too.

DESMOS Graphing Assignment

Linear

x=4

Domain: Any real number

Range: Any real number

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is a function and it is also a line. I can tell from the equation, because it is in the y=mx+b format.

Linear

y=1

Domain: Any real number

Range: y=1

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is a function and it is also a line. I can tell from the equation, because there isn’t more then one variable and it is in the y=mx+b format.

Non-Linear

y=2x

Domain: 1>x>0

Range: 1>y>0

This is not a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is not shown as a line, it has a curve in it. I can tell from the equation, because it is not in the y=mx+b format.

Non-Linear

x2+y2=16

Domain: -4<x<4

Range: -4<y<4

This is/is not a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is not a function and it is not in a line. I can tell from the equation, because it is not in the y=mx+b format.

Self Assesment

I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I was using DESMOS. DESMOS helped me graph and visualize what the graphs look like, and then asses if the graph is linear, non-linear, a function, or not a function.

I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I looked at the graphs that DESMOS gave me. I also analyzed data when I looked the the equations and checked if they were linear or non-linear.

I justified my conclusions with evidence when I checked in with me peers and compared our answers and checked if they were correct or if I needed to change them up a bit. I also looked back into my notes to remind myself of the rules and equations for graphing.

What’s the Word Around Town? (Whistler)

https://maphub.net/embed/130484?legend=1&panel=1&panel_closed=1

a. Was I able to identify how the geography impact the town / city with ease? How was I able to find how the physical geography impacted these areas?

I was, and it helped that i had my notes from my class and google to get facts.

b. How did the technology personally affect my learning? What were the pros and cons of using maphub.com? Be detailed in your response here.

The pros of using maphub was that its very easy to read and the design is clean. A con would be that it was hard to get the hang of it in the beginning, and a bit confusing.

c. Were you satisfied with the result of your design and solutions?

Yes, I think it turned out great.

d. How would you refine your assignment in the future?

In the future i would probably put more time into this project and start it a bit earlier.

About Me

Hello to whoever is reading this! My name is Jayden, and I am a grade 9 at centennial. A few things that you should know about me is that I’m a very good procrastinator. I’ll start a worksheet or a project right when I get home from school, and I’ll finish it, or maybe get halfway through by the time I go to bed. It’s not that i “don’t” want to do the work, I get distracted very easily. My house is very busy. I got both my brothers who have sports almost every day, my mom cooking dinner, and my dog running around, barking at everyone who passes our house. It’s hard to stay focused with all that going on. I also like to watch Netflix. my favourite show to watch on Netflix right now is Family Guy. I’m on season 13, episode 5.

My Favourite Website

https://accounts.snapchat.com/

My favourite website\app at the moment is Snapchat. I like using it to keep in contact with my friends. Sometimes I’ll send them funny memes, or some videos or pictures of myself. I like Snapchat because there is a lot of things you can do with it. You can facetime people, “subscribe” to your favourite celebrities and watch what they do in their daily lives, and watch other people’s stories to see what they’re up too. Overall Snapchat is a very fun app to use.

My Favourite Video

For some stupid reason, Jack Black singing that song and dancing makes me laugh so hard. Maybe it’s the way his pants are pulled up over his belly button, or the flinch right at the beginning. Every time I watch it I find something new to laugh about. The video is just so funny to me.

My Favourite Photo

I like this photo because its a photo of me and my friends the last time we hung out. That’s me on the left in the banana costume, Julia is next to me, then Kalina, and next to Kalina is Georgia. Julia and Kalina go to different schools from me and Georgia. Georgia and I get to see Julia and Kalina on the weekends though because we are on the same sports team. My friends make me happy; I don’t know what id do without them.

My Favourite Quote

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”– Mark Twain

This quote is my favourite because it reminds me that the simple, little things that I’ve done that may have embarrassed me, won’t matter in the future and that I need to start making the best out of the worst situations, even if it means I have to step out of my comfort zone.
