Communicating and Collaborating

I possess the quality of patience and understanding with my other team members. For example, in the Spanish class that I peer tutor, many students will try to ask me questions all at once. I believe that I am capable of handling them all one by one and not losing my patience. I also possess the skill of communication. My other club members and I can communicate with each other when discussing ideas for planning events and fundraisers.

By the end of the course I would like to develop courage. Sometimes I feel like I cannot speak up about what is best for the club. I am trying to build more confidence in my ideas and express them to the members. I would also like to develop time management. I need to set more realistic deadlines to plan for events. It would also be better to plan things out step by step in advance in order for things to actually get done on time.

I can work with others to achieve a goal. For example, in my club Forgotten Orphans, we all collaborate as a group. For planning events, we all must discuss our plan to make it happen. If a problem arises, we can simply review what is wrong and try to problem solve all together. This way, we can get to where we want and achieve our goals.

Core Competency Reflection: Ceramics

For my ceramics character and setting, I created Coraline. I chose this because it was one of my favourite movies from my childhood. I created the spiral door out of stacked carboard, coloured tissue paper, and cotton swabs. Coraline was sculpted from clay and the background was carved out and painted. I also added little spiders and some stars with cardboard, clear string, and hot glue for the spider webs.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is listening to music or looking at Pinterest. It helps me get creative. An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when I was inspired by the actual movie Coraline and tried to replicate some of the setting from the actual movie. Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are trying out new things through trial and error. When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I scroll through Pinterest to help calm myself or create space in my mind to think of and create new ideas for my piece.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Dichotomous Key:

In this assignment, I used critical and reflective thinking in order to solve problems and figure out how to complete it. I used evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this dichotomous key. My partner and I would examine each individual button in order to classify it correctly and we tried to be as specific as possible. There would be times where we were unsure on which category the button would fall into, but we both put out our own ideas on where it would go. This method was very effective because in the end we came to a general agreement which furthered our understanding.

Core Competency Goals

Communication:

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend my understanding by engaging in the conversation and asking questions. I learn more about others perspective while giving my own at the same time.

Creative Thinking:

When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I listen to music to help calm myself or create space in my mind to come up with different ideas. It helps channel my creativity and refresh my mind.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility:

Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include playing volleyball, going for walk, and reading. They help me be active and have the right mindset.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

I demonstrated critical and reflective thinking for this Holey Moley assignment. Although I did not fully understand how to perform percent of uncertainty, I eventually understood it and used this knowledge for my future labs. I reflected on my thinking to find out what I did wrong attempted to try out the equations again. I asked my peers and eventually the teacher to help me understand how to properly solve the equations. I received feedback and acted on it to help get the correct answer. This assignment also helped me practice significant figures to make sure I knew how to do them correctly.

My Favourite Quote

“The sun’ll come out. Nothing good ever comes easy. I know times are rough, but winners don’t quit so don’t you give up.”

My favourite quote is from one of my favourite songs. It’s from the chorus of After the Storm by Kali Uchis ft. Tyler the Creator. Whenever I listen to this song, it always puts me in a better mood and motivates me that better days are always coming even if it doesn’t feel like it. It explains that even though you may be going through a rough patch right now, it will always get better in the future.
