Flood: Poetry in Voice Reflection

My Poem

Curricular Competency Reflection

The way I chose my poem was basing my choice of the requirements, so on the Poetry In Voice website I looked up 25 lines or fewer, and for grades 10-12 and from there I looked through all the possible poems and Flood was the one that just stood out to me. I think it was the simple title with the poem also describing a school and the teachers and students so I could relate to it. The in class activity that helped me the most when preparing was reciting with a partner, doing this daily helped me a lot making the memorization a lot easier. And whenever I would stumble my partner would help me get back on track with hints for the words that Im forgetting. Outside of class the strategy I used was reading then writing down my poem on a piece of paper, writing down the words of the poem helped me a lot because the words started coming to my mind a lot more frequently, and saying it out loud helped me memorize how to present it. Completing the paragraph write about my poem helped me present my poem, knowing what the poem is about and the tone of the writing, it made the presentation part a lot easier for me because I had a better understanding of my poem.

Core Competency Reflection

I can contribute to and work with the criteria to improve my own work, when I’m practicing the recitation with a partner I used their feedback, prompts and hints help me remember the words and the order. By doing so daily it helped me memorize the lines a lot quicker. Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are being able to speak in front of my class, or mainly people I don’t really know who Im not as comfortable speaking to, so this helped me a lot by making me less nervous to speak in front of a class. When I need to boost my mood or re-focus I would take a break, drink some water or eat a snack, sometimes I would just walk away from from my work to let myself gain back focus to finish my task.
