The residential school survivor presentation given by Shane John and Wesley Scott was a unique experience. It was interesting to see the Shane give his own authentic experience of being in residential schools. In addition, Shane connected his experience in residential schools to how it pertains to his life moving forward as well as valuable lessons that can be extracted. Also, it was interesting to see how the residential schools were connected to him and his family. In relation to the personal and social core competency, the presentation showed the lack of awareness, understanding, and appreciation shown in residential schools. For example, Shane talked about how they were not able to practice their own culture and were punished when they spoke their cultural language. Specifically, Shane related an experience of how a boy was punished for speaking his cultural language and did not return. This is related to positive personal and cultural identity because this ability to shape their identity was taken away from Indigenous children. Additionally, the personal awareness and responsibility aspect ties in to the presentation. This is so because Indigenous children had to endure hard labour and punishments, all while being starved and living in poor conditions. Shane talked about how the abusive conditions spilled over into older Indigenous children reflecting that abuse onto younger children because that is all they know. Furthermore, Shane talked about taking a stand to break the cycle and stop the abuse from being bottled in. This lesson helps illustrate personal awareness and responsibility because it helps us understand that there are consequences to our actions. In conclusion, the residential school survivor presentation was an interesting experience because of the genuine experience and feelings that Shane shared.

Core Competency Goals
Based on the three core competencies, I have set three goals for myself. One goal that I have is to have more creative and insightful ideas. I can achieve this goal by working with my peers to refine and stimulate my thinking, which helps me get new ideas. Another goal that I have is to grow in my teaching skills. I chose this goal because I often find myself understanding material well, but not well enough to teach others about it. One thing that I am doing to work towards this goal is being understanding of the people that I am helping. This helps my work towards my goal because when I am able to put myself in the position of others, I am more equipped to teach new topics to them. The final goal that I have set for myself is to express my learning in more creative ways. This is a good goal because creativity is an aspect that I have to work on and it will further grow my skillset and learning. I can achieve this goal by taking inspiration from new ways to show one’s work, and adapting it to have my own creative spin on my presentation. In conclusion, these three goals will help me grow towards being a more creative and effective teacher.
English 10 Core Competency Self-Assessment
Creative Thinking
My artifact is an example of the critical thinking core competency because I used my creativity to create a poem for a project. I built upon the example poems that we read in class by using poetic techniques while putting my own creative writing for the poem. I used the five senses to create a vivid picture in the mind of the reader by using imagery. I think that I demonstrated the core competency well because I am proud of the poems that I have made and I got a good score on the project overall.

Collaborating in CLE 10
I demonstrated that I can cooperate with others for specific purposes in this assignment by providing and listening to their feedback to make our resumes better. A challenge or obstacle that I encountered was giving feedback in the most clear and concise way to make it easy for others to understand. I learned that collaborating is an effective way to improve my work. I can apply this skill in my everyday life by demonstrating effective communication at school when doing group assignments, and at a job when co-operating with my colleagues. I think that communication is an essential part of human life because poor communication is seen as a liability and having good communication skills makes you more desirable in team and social environments
Accounting 11 Critical and Reflective Thinking
I can gather, select, evaluate, and synthesize information. I consider alternative approaches and make strategic choices. I did this in my balance sheet by collecting the information from my trial balance and income statements and putting them in my statement in the proper format. I examine my thinking, seek feedback, reassess my work, and adjust. I did this when making my balance sheet by checking for errors and mistakes and fixing them based on the proper format.

Communication
This artifact is a display of the communication core competency. In this project, I worked in a group to make a poster that displays our analyses of a character in the novel study unit. Communication was key in completing the assignment by the deadline. I demonstrated communication in a number of ways. Firstly, I expressed my analysis of the project with my group members and worked together to combine them and organize them neatly on our note sheet. Secondly, I worked well to fulfill my role and complete my portion of the assignment to pull my own weight. Finally, I collaborated smoothly with my group by responding to questions in a clear and concise manner to keep the flow of our hard work. In conclusion, I demonstrated and worked hard to develop my communication skills by analyzing different points of view, working hard to do my part, and collaborating to make the project as easy as possible.

Social Awareness & Responsibility in CLE 10
I demonstrated that I can appreciate diverse perspectives on issues and can resolve problems respectfully and effectively. This artifact was a poster for a group presentation where we shared our answers to questions about phone habits. This is an example of the core competency because I was able to listen respectfully to other perspectives and combine them into a concise answer. I learned that many people have different perspectives on phone habits. I can apply this skill in everyday life because it is important that I am able to listen to different perspectives and convey them in a concise and presentable manner. This skill is also beneficial for daily life because there are a lot of takes on world issues and because I am able to listen to different perspectives and pick out the key information, I am able to form an educated opinion.
Our Utopian City: Newer York
Our Values
Family- Family ties are important, and that value is represented in the homes we have built around the city. The homes are medium sized, so families can all live together and stay connected. We chose this value because we believe that long lasting relationships in the family are important.
Education- The education of future generations is important and in included in our city’s values. The library stands at an area with lots of traffic, so students and passersby can simply pick up a book to read and study. We also provide education to each and every student to make sure that the future of the community is in good hands.
Safety- Feeling safe and secure is an important value to the city. The police station located downtown makes sure that the community feels safe and secure everywhere. Trusted people are employed to work at the police station, so they are approachable and can enforce laws effectively.
Freedom- Freedom is very important to have a happy community. The boat represents our value of freedom well because everyone has the right to travel. Also, everyone has freedom within the city because we are a tolerant and welcoming community that accepts people of all sorts.
Recreation- A community needs some relaxation and recreation to be successful. A golf course was added to make sure that the community is enjoying themselves and having fun. This helps spread the positivity and good vibes throughout the city.
Stone- We chose to build with a lot of stone because this represents the strong foundation and community we build and maintain in the city.
Leaves- We chose to use a lot of green leaves because they represent the growth and health of the community.
Communication Reflection
This project was about a utopian city that we would create based on some core values. We used Minecraft to make our city, and we pulled a city template from online and added in our own buildings to represent our values. We communicated well and took each other’s feedback well so we could contribute equally to the project. I was responsible for writing out our values and their symbolism, and we worked together on adding in our own buildings and coming up with values. We made sure that we both contributed well by assigning tasks and then making sure we were okay with them. We worked really well together and we finished our project quickly without stress. We made decisions together by talking to each other and then coming to an agreement. Fortunately, we did not come across any communication related challenges. I am very satisfied with the outcome of the project, and if I were to change anything, it would certainly be trivial.

Creating a Positive Digital Footprint
Personal/Social Competency Reflection
After researching digital footprints, there are three ways that I can apply this information in my life. I know that my digital footprint can have both negative and positive impacts, such as hindering my chances of landing a job. Therefore, I adjust my actions on the internet by thinking before I post and reflecting on whether or not I would want certain people to view certain material. I also make ethical digital choices such as being positive and upbuilding online, so as to leave a positive impact online. Some of my preferred strategies to make sure that I am leaving a positive impact online is to reflect on how it will affect others and how I would feel if I was on the other end of the screen. Chances are, if I would feel offended, the receiver of my comments or posts online would also, so I keep those comments to myself. When I maintain a positive digital footprint, I feel good because I know I am having a positive effect on others and contributing to the community.

Technology & Wellbeing Reflection
My stress is mostly caused by school related assignments, such as an upcoming test or assignment due date. I manage my stress well and as a result, my stress is minor and temporary. I manage my stress by breaking work into manageable chunks and taking breaks for my mind by sleeping and exercising. Technology has been another coping mechanism for stress and I use it to take a break from work by watching a movie or playing a video game. Despite the fact that my stress levels have definitely increased during the pandemic, technology has kept it at bay and my productivity has gone up. Technology supports my wellbeing by being able to stay connected to friends and family because I cannot see them in person and it stresses me out when I am isolated. Also, I feel like my wellbeing has gone up because I have been able to use technology for research assignments and projects. In conclusion, technology has been an excellent coping tool for me and has especially positively affected my wellbeing during the pandemic.
