PHE 10 AH Reflection

My Artifact

I feel good today

Personal Health and Wellness

In PE, when I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I go for walks. It calms me down and i can re-focus and breathe in some fresh air. Also some things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include eating well and doing physical exercise. Physical exercise is really important because it calms me down and is a good way to stay healthy. As well as mental health, taking a break once in a while is good just to relax and not be so stressed. However, eating healthy also improves my mood as getting in a healthy breakfast or lunch gives me enough energy throughout the day.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal. – I work with others by thinking of game plans with my team in PE to achieve our goals.

I recognize my emotions and use strategies to manage them. – I recognize when I am tired to reflect and think of what I can do to improve.

I participate in classroom or group activities that improve the class, school, or community. – I participate in PE activities to support my teammates.

I can reflect on my thinking and make judgements. – I can reflect on my actions in PE to make judgments on what to do next.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Social Awareness and Responsibility in CLE 10

Reflection

In this assignment I demonstrated social awareness and responsibility by connecting my life choices with my social peers and others. What did I learn from this assignment? I learnt to think about all the different sacrifices, decisions, obstacles and events in my life. I also learnt that in life, there are going to be many different eras and while not everything about it will be positive, but to learn what to do better to prevent it from happening again in the future. This is an important skill in my everyday life because everyday you make new choices. Some may be easier than others but you will be faced with multiple things everyday. This connects with social awareness and responsibility because it shows the ways I will interact with others around the world. Some of my life choices will not just be about me and this shows how I can include my life choices with others. I am responsible for working collaboratively with my communities and peer and I believe with this assignment, I have included that.

Japanese Internment

The Japanese Canadians should not be put into internment camps because this can infuriate the Japanese and cause the Canadian government to waste money on unreasonable and discriminatory camps. The U.S.A is at war with Japan who had recently attacked Pearl Harbour, but Canadians are frightened they are next because of the connections with the U.S.A. Spending countless amounts of money on a camp to isolate Japanese Canadians is not a worthy purpose of the little money Canadians have. Us Canadians have just came out of the great depression and World War I, where Canada was faced with severe debt. The government is more worried about separating Japanese families due to the thought that they are a threat and a danger to society. The Canadian government fears they would also be secret spies or help the Japanese, therefore, having no trust in them.  However, this action can offend the Japanese people and cause bigger issues especially since people born in Canada or who have Canadian citizenship are put into camps because of their background and nationality. If the Japanese know how they’re treated in Canada, other tragedies could result and may cause corruption against Canada and Japan. Even though it is unsure of what events may happen, this prevents further consequences as it should not affect the citizens that are found loyal and not a threat.

Core Competency

  • I did analyze evidence from the research I did and made judgements.
  • I now understand and can appreciate diverse perspectives on issues and can resolve problems

effectively and responsibly.

  • I can now understand and tell, after examining the facts of the possible threat from Japanese-

Canadians in Canada and the opinions of various people, the difference between fact and opinion.

Curricular Competency

  • I did assess and explained the significance of Canadian treatment of Japanese-Canadians on

Canada’s present day views of equality and status under the law in my research handout.

  • I did assess and explained the justification for different views of Japanese-Canadian internment in

my research handout and paragraph.

  • I did assess, understood and explained the significance of the threat of the Japanese army and its

treatment of people it conquered, in British Columbia, in my research handout and paragraph.

Linear and Non Linear Equations

Linear Equations

Example 1:

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because when formed in desmos the line was straight. I can tell from the equation because it is a form of y=mx+b also in the equation there isn’t any form of exponents or crazy math symbols.

Example 2:

2x-3y=12

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because the linear graph line is straight. I can tell from the equation because it is a form of “Ax+By=C

Non Linear Equations

Example 3:

This is a non linear equation. I can tell by the graph because the line isn’t straight, it is curved.I can tell from the equation because there is an exponent connected to the 2.

Example 4:

This is a non linear equation. I can tell by the graph because the lines are separate and they are not straight. I can tell by the equation because it was not formatted in a linear equation and it has a fraction in the equation.

Self Assessment

I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I input different equations in the Desmos websites to form a graph. I was able to choose different equations from the selection to see which ones I would use.

I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I looked at the equation and graphs. I was able to identify if the equation was linear or non linear. If it was linear, the equation would be in one of two formats and if it was non linear, it would be in a different format and have other various mathematical terms. I was also able to look at the graphs and look at the way the lines were formed from the equation.

I justified my conclusions with evidence when I have looked over the graph and equation to make sure its right and consulted with the teacher.

My Utopian City: Fantasy City

FANTASY CITY

This city was designed by: Ashavri, Jordyn, and myself Ella

OUR VALUES

Nature- living in a city where nature is everywhere would be the best. Having to get out of your house and smell the fresh trees and to breathe the fresh air every day. Wildlife animals wondering around, beautiful scenery and going on a walk through the forest. We showed this is in our, city by placing trees as a forest in the background, adding some horses and creating the scenery green.

Sense of community/ secure environment – living in a secure environment with a great community would be ideal. Nowhere in this city will there be harm. Leaving your house without fearing anything happening to you. Stress, harm free environment, only happiness in this city.

Relationships- Building a good relationship with the community. The community you live in, is your second family. You rely on one another and support each other which creates a stronger bond and happier environment. We believe that if your relationships within your community will make everything happier. Whether its walking down the street. You can see your neighbours without being complete strangers. In our city, we added some people getting along together.

Adventure- adventure is the one of the many things that can make a world fun.

Happiness- In our city everyone is happy and filled with joy. This city represents happiness and all anyone wants to do is just be successful throughout their life. Our city does not give negative vibes only positive ones.

Kindness- In our city, everyone is there for each other and no one feels left out. Everyone feels safe and not judged for who they are. Our city is a city that anyone would want to live in.

COMMUNICATION REFLECTION

My group and I created this city called, Fantasy City. This project was to create our ideal dream city using a city design app. We wanted to incorporate all our ideal cities to turn it into one amazing city. Throughout the week we had to work on it from home through communicating by ourselves responsibly. First, we had to choose which program we wanted to use. We struggled to find a program in the beginning. Some needed to pay like Minecraft, and others did not have a big selection in the inventory. We then found out that city creator had a few different backgrounds therefore chose that one to use. Once we found a good background all 3 of us liked, we began creating the city. Brainstorming was a key part since we were only going to see each other that one day. One person oversaw making the city design with everyone’s suggestions. The others had to write values. All of us came up with a few values each then minimalized it to 6 that we think are the best.  On Wednesday while working at home, we created a group chat to share our ideas and communicate with each other. Once everyone completed their jobs, we took pictures of what we did and shared it within our group to see if anything needed to be added or changed. Overall, I am satisfied with the project. I feel like we all contributed in this together as a group and it turned out great. Throughout this project, we were able to communicate together and use our own imagination to create our dream ideal city, the Fantasy City.

What’s The World Around Town?

ADL socials geography 2 by ella22 · MapHub

Was I able to identify how the geography impact the town / city with ease? Yes I think that I was able to identify it easily.

How was I able to find how the physical geography impacted these areas? I used all the notes I wrote down in my binder and used google as well. Plus in the textbook there was a section for this and I used it too

How did the technology personally affect my learning? Personally I think that since it was an online assignment I was able to try and figure it out myself and if not then I would go ask for help whether it was a friend or a teacher

What were the pros and cons of using maphub.com? Pros were that it was easy to understand after i found out how to use it. Con was that it was a bit challenging at first

Were you satisfied with the result of your design and solutions? How would you refine your assignment in the future? Overall I am quite happy with this project. I think I could’ve spent just a little bit of time more on this, but it was good!

Most challenging Foods Lab

This is a quinoa salad. The reason this was the most challenging was because everything had to be diced which includes the knife skills. I had to make sure which ever vegetables I was cutting they were the same size so the presentation would be nicer. I tried to decorate it the best I could by putting the veggies on the side with the quinoa in the middle and the seeds on top of the quinoa .In my quinoa salad, I had diced cucumber, sliced carrots and peppers, quinoa, some arugula, spinach, chick peas, cashews, pumpkin and chia seeds. Finally to finish off there was a little bit of salad dressing to put on top.

I’ve never had quinoa before that day. I wasn’t to sure of what to expect. the texture of the quinoa was kind of like rice and small seeds combined together. When I tried the quinoa it was fluffy and small. I’ve never had anything like that before. The salad dressing on the top was giving the whole salad an extra flavour. The salad dressing was a bit sour and had a miso taste to it. I felt like once you take a whole bite of the vegetables and the quinoa all together it tastes better!

Most Successful Foods Lab

This is a carrot muffin. It was the most successful because they came out tasting and looking good. The hardest part of this lab was grating the carrots because they were really small and hard to grate. I couldn’t smell anything at the beginning because it was just carrots but towards the end while in the oven I could really smell it. I started off by grating the carrots while my partner was working on the flour and liquid mixtures. When mixing the carrots and ingredients together we had to make sure we didn’t over mix the mixture or unevenly mix it. After that we poured the batter into the muffin tins. When the muffins came out of the oven they were evenly round and were similar size and shape. The product turned out well since we did not overmix the mixture which was the key part to this lab.

Inside this muffin in this picture is a little bit of cream cheese frosting that Ms. Bolli made for us. She didn’t add too much or too little into the muffin. It was the perfect amount. I’ve never actually ate a carrot muffin with cream cheese frosting in it before, but after that I think I’m gonna have to eat it again! Also inside the muffin was some pineapple. I couldn’t taste the pineapples really but instead made the muffins more moist and added extra flavour to it.

Favourite Foods Lab

This was my favourite foods lab. It was a grilled cheese sandwich. The reason why it is my favourite is because it tasted good and was easy to make. Basically all I did was butter the bread add cheese and whatever else I wanted so I chose tomatoes. Even though I used butter on the bread, I watch some videos before and it said that you could use mayo instead of butter. At first, my grilled cheese was turning brown or melting the cheese, but then I found out that my pan was only on 1 when it was supposed to be on medium. Once I turned it higher, it started cooking.

Throughout this lab, I was trying to make sure the cheese inside was equally melted and the outside was a crispy brown. and my finished lab looked like that. A hard part about this was flipping the grilled cheese. I tried really hard not to make the bread separate from the other slice of bread. Usually I don’t add anything into my grilled cheese except cheese but this time I added tomatoes and 2 kinds of cheese. The most successful part was liking the tomatoes. I usually don’t like tomatoes, but it gave the grilled cheese more flavour and tasted good!
