History 12 Core Competency Edublog Reflection:

Critical and Reflective Thinking Core Competency:

Based on the social studies 1919 Russian Revolution unit the following question, “Is history the story told by the winners”? In the Russian Revolution unit, we learned about how Russia was trying to fight against Germany and how Russia was losing most key battles. If Germany had ended up taking over Russia instead of creating the treaty of Brest-Litovsk. At that time Germany could have made false claims over the events in the war that may have not happened which would mean, “History is told by the winners”. However, in modern day history, when historians take a look at evidence, they try to get the least biased answer. Which would mean trying to get an accurate understanding from both sides. This would therefore mean most evidence in textbooks or documentaries would be unbiased from a careful examination of both sides, from the event making the statement above proven false in my opinion.

Core competency: I can analyze evidence to make judgments

When I am given information to read such as texts I try and read it to get a good understanding of the topic. Once I am sure I have a good understanding I am able to complete any assignments attached to it or create notes on the topic. When I have a good understanding that enables me to create my own judgement of the topic so I can visualize what happened in that historic event and the things that occurs that made it significant.
