Creating a Positive Digital Footprint
Personal/Social Competency Reflection
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences. For example, if post-secondary schools or job applications look up your name and you have a bunch of achievements in sports or music, then they will be able to see your awards and have a positive look on you. In contrast, if they look you up, there could be photos/videos of you outside of school. For instance parties. Those pictures could give them a bad first impression of you and lower your chances of getting into the school or job you want. I adjust my actions by having a private account on social media.
I make digital ethical choices such as being careful on what I post or share online. I think about if I would be okay with the job I want to get or colleges seeing what I’m about to share online.
By watching what I say online, I make a positive difference to my peers. Simply just reading over what you are about to post can change someone’s day. I think about if what I’m about to post/share is helpful or positive to someone else.
