Core Competency Self-Assessment: Diffusion Through a Membrane lab

This Picture is the Sausage filled with starch

For this lab, everyone worked with a partner. As well we work with another set of partners who did one part while we did the other part. My partner and I worked on Part A which was the starch and the other group worked on part B which was the Glucose. I was able to use the three different core competencies throughout this lab. The first core competency I showed was Communication, I had to take on certain roles and listen and discuss things with my partner. I also needed to discuss things with the group that was doing part B. For example, we would discuss the process of doing the lab and the observations we made. My partner and I also had to communicate with one another when actually doing the physical lab so we did not miss anything or do it wrong. For Thinking competency, before we even begin making the sausage and starting the lab we both made sure that we had read the lab carefully and paid close attention when our instructor was demonstrating what we needed to do. By reading the lab before hand we were able to take a very short time in making the starch solution and we could make more observations with the time that we saved, as we already needed to wait 20 minutes before we could observe and would not have had we much time afterwards. Finally, for my Personal competency I was able to work well with my partner and we had no conflict or disagreements about the lab. For next time however, I would like to talk to the other group more as we really didn’t talk to the group doing portion B and would have liked to know more about how their experiment went. Along with this I needed to use text message to communicate with the other group since on both days, there was not enough time for us to talk to each other.

I made sure to talk to my partner about this lab and tell her about some of the observations we missed we looked at the beaker. Looking over the lab and seeing everything we needed for it helped me be more organized when doing the lab and take less time. I was able to come in a few minutes before class to get a head start to make sure our lab would be finished in time. I made sure my answers were detailed and not to general.

when we had finished doing our lab my partner and I went to the other group and helped them finish their part so they could have enough time to still make their observations. my partner and I were great at doing the lab together and shared the work evenly I took on more of a role in making the observations and getting the materials as I knew all the measurements. While my partner took on the main role of making the lab while I helped. Next time I would like to help more in the actual build process of the lab as to me that is always my favourite and most interesting part.

Social Awareness and Responsibility/Communication

My Artifact: A short script my group and I presented in Spanish 11

During one of my Spanish 11 classes, we were instructed to form groups of three and come up with a script we would present in a couple of days. This was the first script we presented. Each group had to make a script about a conversation between a waiter and two customers. I used social awareness and responsibility throughout the whole writing process of the script. My group and I had to work together and hear everyone’s ideas when making the script. I had to make sure everyone was able to speak and have a turn to talk. I also made sure no one was feeling left out and that we all liked how are script was turning out. I used Communication in the speaking portion of the script. I made sure that everyone was comfortable reading their lines and that the lines were divided evenly. I made sure to practice my lines beforehand so I could pronounce the words correctly. I made sure to use expression when speaking to make the script sound more real and less robotic. I picked this script because I had done well on it and believe that since last year my oral pronunciations have improved tremendously.
